Twelve owls tell the time
Bengal has a long tradition of painted woodcraft, from the owls of Natungram to the Kolkata folk-art patterns seen on toys and household objects. Our wooden pieces pair turned and carved wood with hand-painted alpana and folk motifs, made to be used every day.
The wood is seasoned, cut and turned on a lathe or carved by hand, then sanded smooth. Artists paint the alpana and folk motifs freehand with fine brushes and the piece is sealed with a food-safe or protective lacquer finish.
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry straight away. Do not soak, microwave or put in a dishwasher. Rub in a little food-grade oil now and then to keep the wood from drying out.
Made to order in 2–3 weeks, then carefully packed and shipped across India and worldwide.
