About this gift

A tray for welcoming guests

Alpana is the auspicious white line Bengali women draw on courtyards and thresholds for Lakshmi puja and every festival. Here the same lotus, creeper and kolka (paisley) motifs are painted freehand onto turned and carved wood, so the blessing can sit on the table all year.

Every piece is nested in crinkle paper inside a rigid Purva Heritage gift box, ready to hand over. The tray is joined in wood and polished, then the paisley medallion, corner flowers and creeper border are painted freehand in white.

The painted surface is decorative: wipe with a soft, barely damp cloth and dry at once. Do not soak, put in a dishwasher or scrub the painted areas. Keep out of long direct sun. Never leave a lit tealight unattended; place the holders on a heat-safe surface.
