About this gift

A tray dressed for the festival

Alpana is the auspicious white line Bengali women draw on courtyards and thresholds for Lakshmi puja and every festival. Here the same lotus, creeper and kolka (paisley) motifs are painted freehand onto turned and carved wood, so the blessing can sit on the table all year.

Inside: Round wooden tray with red alpana band; Hamsa and lotus carved wooden tealight holders with tealights. Every piece is nested in crinkle paper inside a rigid Purva Heritage gift box, ready to hand over. The tray is built from solid wood, fitted with metal handles, and its outer wall is painted red with a white arch-and-lotus alpana by hand.

The painted surface is decorative: wipe with a soft, barely damp cloth and dry at once. Do not soak, put in a dishwasher or scrub the painted areas. Keep out of long direct sun. Never leave a lit tealight unattended; place the holders on a heat-safe surface.
