About this gift

Warm rotis, kept the old way

Sabai grass (Eulaliopsis binata) grows wild across the Jangalmahal belt of Jhargram and neighbouring Mayurbhanj. For tribal and rural women here, twisting, dyeing and coiling this tough grass into baskets is a steady income and a skill passed from mother to daughter.

Inside: Lidded coiled grass roti basket; Hamsa and lotus carved wooden tealight holders with tealights. Every piece is nested in crinkle paper inside a rigid Purva Heritage gift box, ready to hand over. The grass is harvested, sun-dried and dyed, then coiled into bundles and stitched round and round by hand from the centre outwards, with the handles worked in as the basket grows.

Wipe the basket with a dry cloth or brush out dust; if it gets wet, dry it in the shade. Line it with a napkin for bread or loose food. Never leave a lit tealight unattended; place the holders on a heat-safe surface.

Assembled to order in 1–3 weeks, then cushioned, outer-cartoned and shipped across India and worldwide.
