About this set

Rows of spirals, held in a tube

Dokra (Dhokra) is metal cast by the lost-wax method, a technique more than 4,000 years old. In Bengal it is kept alive chiefly in Bikna (Bankura) and Dariyapur (Purba Bardhaman), and Bengal Dokra received its GI tag in 2018. Its spirals, coils and granules come from the same village art that decorates Dokra horses, lamps and figurines. The pendant is a hollow tube lined with rows of spiral roundels and capped with ribbed ends — a form found in old amulet cases — and the earrings repeat a single tight spiral inside a rope-twist rim.

Each piece is modelled on a clay core and covered with fine threads of wax, wound by hand into spirals and coils. The model is coated in clay and fired: the wax melts away and molten brass takes its place. The mould is broken to free the piece, which is cleaned, polished to an antique gold tone and strung — so no two sets are ever exactly alike.

Put on after perfume and lotion, and take off before bathing or swimming. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing and store each piece separately in a pouch or box, away from moisture. The antique tone deepens naturally with time.

Cast and finished to order in 1–3 weeks, then pouched, boxed and shipped across India and worldwide.
